“Ovarian cancer is the biggest killer amongst all of the female cancers. Nearly 80% of those treated for ovarian cancer will experience a recurrence. The chances of death within the first five years of treatment is nearly 50%, no matter if it is stage 2,3, or 4.”
I’m supposed to be reading these books that the hospital provided. And really… I don’t want to. I don’t want to cry anymore.

MissisTook

Gemma, be careful of what you read. Those statistics are different from what my doctor told me. I was diagnosed at stage 2C. I’m nearly two years out and I’ve been good. It sounds like you have an early stage and are getting excellent care. Just be sure you are visiting gynoncolgists as well as getting second opinions if you aren’t comfortable with the course of treatment. These things increase the chances. Also, reading you should do… nutrition, exercise, meditation, attitude, yoga etc. Find out what you can do to help increase your chances. This will help give you peace of mind.
Also, remember those statistics are for normal average cases. Those statistics also say 18 year olds don’t get this disease. Well, that doesn’t really matter does it, you have the disease and the statistics were wrong. You will make those statistics wrong again. You will get through this and you will not have recurrence. And if you do get recurrence, if I get recurrence… we will deal with it and get better.
Keep your chin up. I’m rooting for you.
Good luck!
Gemma…hello there. It’s been too long, I’ve been meaning to write.
Don’t forget that 80% of those diagnosed with ovarian cancer are sadly stage 3…not stage one like yourself (and me). Slockwoo is also right, listen to her, she’s a toughy as well… ; ) Being that you’re so young you have that on your side. You’re going to fly through this babe, and you’re going to be alright.
These are all stats….nothing in stone says that YOU will die from this…it’s just a number…so what are we….chopped liver????
I haven’t given up…and YOU DON’T EITHER!
